Ortega Ezquerro

This family-run winery traces its roots back through four generations of winegrowers. Carmelo Ezquerro, great-grandson and current owner, is firmly committed to showcasing the unique character of Tudelilla—a historic village that still preserves the largest area of dry-farmed vineyards in all of Rioja. His century-old vines are located in La Pedriza, where the stony soils impart a strong sense of place and distinct regional identity to the wines.

Nestares Eguizábal

The family, long dedicated to viticulture, decided in 1998 to build a winery in the town of Galilea, nestled in the Ocón Valley (Central Rioja), to craft wines exclusively from their own vineyards. The wines of Nestares Eguizábal embody the unique character of their four estates, cultivated in a high-altitude region (between 520 and 650 meters) with extremely poor, clay-limestone and stony soils—conditions that give rise to wines with remarkable personality and distinct identity.

Juan Carlos Sancha

If there is an emerging region in Rioja today, it is Alto Najerilla. The work of Juan Carlos Sancha with old vineyards—particularly his collection of Garnachas, now ranked among the finest wines in Rioja and Spain—has played a key role in the revival of this area. New projects, investments, and the acquisition of old vines have become increasingly common. Sancha’s Peña El Gato collection has placed Alto Najerilla’s Garnachas firmly on the global wine map. He is also a leading figure in the recovery of rare and nearly forgotten native varieties such as Maturana Tinta, Maturana Blanca, and Tempranillo Blanco.

Gerardo Viteri

Gerardo and Aurora, along with the help of their children, run this small family-owned winery. While based in Rioja Alavesa (Assa/Lanciego), the majority of their 35 hectares of vineyards lie across the Ebro River, in the El Cortijo meander (Logroño). Viterico (young range) and Legado de Viteri (Crianza and Reserva) are their flagship wines: fresh, very easy to drink, with a long finish.
